Sour Things: The Workshop
The workshop invites participants to explore the concept of active listening through the transformative lens of fermentation, intertwining themes of care, self-awareness, and place. Using fermentation as a metaphor, we reflect on the interplay between our bodies and the “body” of the jar, and how time shapes both.
The session include a hands-on fermentation workshop, where we create a lemon and spice-based ferment. During this process, we hold a reading circle centered on Mirna Bamieh’s text Sour Cities. This text will guide us on a sensory and reflective journey into sourness—both as taste and aftertaste—while exploring the interrelationship between our bodies, the places we inhabit, and the ones we leave behind.
We conclude the workshop by sharing small bites that transform when paired with the freshly prepared lemon ferment. Each participant leave with their jar, ready to begin its fermentation process, along with reflections on the sourness of time, place, and care.
